I admit, there have been many occasions where I left completely unprepared like this one time I had a heavy flow at my new job’s company bowling event. I had been wearing the same pad for at least 5 hours and I was sooo uncomfortable! Even I felt a little shy asking a new coworker for a pad. This brings me to my next point…
There is something girls sign up for when they start to menstruate. Every girl automatically signs up for it. It’s called…
This includes girls that are older than you, younger than you, and even complete strangers you don’t know.
If another girl asks you for a pad, you can help her out by giving her a pad or tampon. If you don’t have one, you can help by asking someone else for one or if you can, offer to buy her one from the machine.
If you see a girl struggling with the pad/tampon vending machine, just ask if she needs help or offer her a pad.
Every single time I’ve asked a stranger for help, they ALWAYS share their pads with me and it’s not just that one girl. If another girl overhears, they offer help too. So even if you don’t have a pad to share, offer help anyways because another girl will definitely share! Yes, Girl Code is pretty darn cool!
So who do I ask?
Periods are so normal to older girls that we don’t think twice about helping out another girl. It’s just a normal thing to do. It’s Girl Code!
If you don’t feel comfortable asking strangers, then you can always ask your school nurse. They always have a stash in their first aid kit for sharing.
