TOM Oxygen Releasing Pads Preview with Photos

Anti-Microbial, Anti-Odor, Anti-Humidity

TOM TO2M Pads
Recently the sister brother duo of TOM Pads (it stands for The Oxygen Movement) sent me some of their pads to try out. These pads are unlike any other pads on the market today.

TOM pads release oxygen making them super comfortable for women living in humid climates. The patented technology was created by Frank and Nancy Tsaur after Nancy complained about how the humidity affected her period.

So how does it work?
The TOM pad releases oxygen once your period comes in contact with the pad. Once activated, it can produce up to 50 mL of pure oxygen. And while I am not sure just how much oxygen that is, I’m going to assume it’s enough to keep you feeling less sweaty down there.

The oxygen also puts the breaks on odor-causing bacteria on your pad and on your skin.

Aside from being thin, flexible, and absorbent, TOM pads are also guaranteed to keep you more fresh and comfortable during that time of the month.

Initial Thoughts
TOM pads sent me 2 boxes – their regular pads and night time pads. They came packaged in a very cute cardboard box but I was disappointed to see each box only had 8-10 pads! Typically a box of pads is meant to last you one full period so they are sold in boxes of 16 pads or more. You would need to purchase at least 2 boxes for 1 period.

The night time pads are very long and have a wider back which is common for Asian pads and has recently become popular in North America. If these pads live up to their claims then I think these pads would be perfect for the hot summer nights when you have a heavy flow.

I’m planning to try these pads on my next period (it’s coming up very soon!). I can’t wait to share my review with all of you.

Little Things For Good: Tampon Tins with a side of LOL fun

“Why should the only solution be to hide the fact we carry tampons around?”

When we think of periods, it’s not normally something we look forward to every month with joy but we can’t deny that all girls have LOL period stories.

Enter Little Things for Good, a socially conscious company that makes LOL tampon tins that ‘tell it like it is’ featuring slogans on the front from real women about periods.

Little Things for Good was founded by Lizzie Earl after finding a lack of products to carry and organize tampons – but rather than creating a product which hid the fact it was to carry tampons, she wanted one that was loud and proud and challenged the taboo of periods in a fun and engaging way.

These little cases also do good like their name suggests – with 15% of the proceeds going towards charities St Mungo’s Broadway in the UK and Sunshine Action in Hong Kong to help provide homeless women with period products.

The tins have been been bought by people from around the world – everywhere from London England to Virginia USA, Hong Kong to New Zealand – and have been supported by magazines like Stylist and Cosmopolitan.

The tampon tins are priced at £10 and ship worldwide.

Playtex Sport Pads Review: My new favourite pad!

You’ve got game! Don’t let your period get in the way. Playtex® Sport® Ultra-Thin Pads with Wings are designed with an anti-leak absorbent core that pulls fluid quickly into the pad and locks it inside. PlayOn!

Playtex Sport Pad Review

When I heard that Playtex had recently released pads that were JUST like my all-time favorite Stayfree pads, I just had to try them!

The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was that there was… another one! The pads were packaged in more packaging – a sealed bag… wait so does this mean this pad is packaged 3 times?! (the box–>plastic bag–>individually wrapped). That’s a lot for such a small product!

Here’s another way to look at it: Now you can choose to store your pads in the bag or the box :) And it is much more convenient to throw a bag of pads in the my purse than a cardboard box.

So does this pad match up to the Stayfree pad?

YES! It does! If you’re a fan of the Stayfree pad, you will really like the Playtex pads.

They both have cotton soft like covers with quick absorption, comfortable dry wear, and are super thin – perfect for sport wear.

It makes me question if they are made by the same manufacturer and then just packaged differently by the companies. The only difference I can point out is that the Playtex ones come in more typical sizing whereas the Stayfree ones come in a wider variety of sizes from mini size to overnight pads with a wider bum.

There are also creases in the pad to help it flex with your body’s natural curves and I found that this really helped with preventing leaks. It didn’t create folds or pockets that caused leaks – something that I experience with other pads.

Regular Playtex Sport pads measure 23.5cm by 10.3 – 8.5cm and are 0.1cm thin.

U By Kotex Cleanwear Pads with 3D Capture Core & Xpress DRI Review

Take better care with a pad that’s seriously flexible. U by Kotex® CleanWear® Pads feature new 3D Capture Core® with the Xpress DRI* cover for crazy fast absorption to help stop leaks. Designed to move with your body, secure fit wings help prevent bunching and scrunching.

Review

I’ve reviewed the U By Kotex CleanWear pads with 3D Capture Core before and U By Kotex just released a newer version of this pad with a new cover called Xpress DRI.

I noticed a slight improvement in absorbency with the new Xpress DRI cover. (I didn’t notice any improvement when the 3D Capture Core was introduced.) Absorption was a little bit faster but if I were to quantify it, it is really only a 0.5 point improvement. When I change my pad – there is as much absorbed on top as there is on the bottom which is a good indicator that my period is being pulled away from my body.

However, the new pad still has the same cover – soft and plastic like but traps moisture and sweat when it gets warm. I wore this on a normal day and it still made me chafe a bit :(. I had to switch over to tampons for a bit to let my skin breathe and heal.

Regular:
When wrapped, it measures 11cm by 12cm and is 0.7cm thin.

Tampax Pocket Pearl Tampons Review

tampax pearl pocket tampons
Tampax helps stop leaks before they happen! Only Tampax has a unique BUILT-IN BACKUP™ Braid, which helps stop leaks by channeling them back into the core, protecting you in a way no other tampon can. You can be protected for up to a maximum of 8 hours, even overnight!

– FormFit™ protection gently expands to fit your unique shape.
– Smooth, plastic applicator
– Anti-slip grip
– Easy-open tabs
– Available in a range of absorbencies from light to ultra.

This compact Tampax tampon has been reinvented with the original Tampax Pearl tampon, a brand spankin’ new applicator, and packaging!

I believe these have replaced the Tampax Compak tampons and it seems to have upset a lot of Tampax Compak fans so I had to see what the fuss was all about.

Absorbency

Unlike the original Tampax Pearl Compak tampons that expanded mostly length wise, the new Tampax Pocket Pearl tampons are just like the original full size applicator Tampax Pearl tampons.

The tampon expands mostly width wise into that wing shape so it does leave gaps in the directions the tampon doesn’t expand which for some girls may translate into leaks.

When I change my tampon, it is almost always evenly saturated which is a good sign that it has great absorbency.

The signature BackUp Braide is supposed to stop leaks before they happen but from my experience using the Tampax tampons, I’m not really 100% sure that it helps.

I mean it does absorb a little bit more on the braided part but sometimes I think it’s just absorbing more at the tail end and I’m not sure if it’s really stopping any leaks. The BackUp Braid just doesn’t make a noticeable difference to me.

Comfort
There was only one or two times where I leaked and the tampon wasn’t evenly saturated yet. I think the Leakguard braid is really a hit or a miss depending on your flow and how the tampon fits your body.

I would definitely recommend wearing a panty liner with this tampon.

Recommend for: Normal flows
Not recommend for: Lighter flows, always use the lightest absorbency needed for your flow.

Applicator
The new reinvented applicator looks like a copy cat of the U By Kotex Click tampons! They fully extend with the sound of a click and middle part is clear. (I always feel so guilty throwing away these fancy applicators LOL.)

Unlike the Tampax Pearl full size applicators that are a little flat in shape, these applicators are circular. If you’re using the twist and insert method, it will glide in smoothly without feeling the shape of the applicator.

A lot of girls experienced problems with the new applicator – that it would not click to fully extend or just too short to insert it high enough. I didn’t experience any of these problems though.

Packaging

I hate to be a huge packaging fanatic but I have to say that Procter and Gamble is one of the few companies that puts effort into the packaging of their feminine hygiene products! And not just Tampax but Always too! This is a product women need to buy every month and for some women, it may not be something they look forward to. So I think it’s great that they put as much effort into their packaging as they do their product.

The colorful and uniquely shaped box is what caught my eye first. I love how the box top closes too. It’s not like the regular box top flaps that almost never work (you know that type you see on cereal boxes?).

The tampon is packaged in bright fun colors and has a perforated opening but sometimes I found it hard to open the wrapper which can be frustrating if you are in a rush.

Also many girls complained that the ink came off the wrapper and dyed their hands a bunch of colors. The wrapper is already bright so with your hands colored brightly too, it is really hard to be discreet. It didn’t happen to me so perhaps it was a bad batch.

HelloFlo Period Starter Kit Review

If you’re expecting a comprehensive kit, save your $30.

helloflo period starter kit

Review

I ordered the HelloFlo Period Starter Kit after seeing their viral commercials andd when I learned that they partnered with Always, I couldn’t wait to see their kits. But after receiving it, I was truly disappointed.

The kit cost $29.95 and it comes with:

  • Get Ready Guide for Girls
  • Get Ready Guide for Parents
  • Always Radiant Infinity Teen Pads
  • Always Dailies Liners
  • Canvas Pouch for organizing supplies
  • BeadForLife Sanyu Bangle Bracelet
  • Surprise Gifts and Goodies: Mine came with 1 body lotion, 2 hair ties, 1 pack of make up wipes, 1 granola sample, and 1 candy sample

The Always Infinity pads are excellent and you can’t go wrong pairing them with Always pantyliners, however these two are items that can be purchased from a store for much less. The HelloFlo canvas pouch is really handy and can fit multiple pads, pantyliners, and even tampons too. I love that it’s a muted color and small so its discreet when you pull it out of your backpack to bring to the bathroom. However, there’s nothing special about these items and they can be purchased for less than $30 at a store. All the other “Surprise Gifts and Goodies” are not essential to a period starter kit and really are just a bunch of party favours.

I was most disappointed in the Get Ready guides because aside from the zipper pouch, these were the only items that were created by HelloFlo and not something you can buy in a store so I thought that the real value from the $30 must be found in these pamphlets.

The Get Ready Guide for Girls is ALL TEXT. No pictures, diagrams, or even a calendar. Some girls get their period as young as 8 years old so making this kit all text was a real missed opportunity to connect with their intended audience. Half the guide covered changes that happen in puberty so labelling this kit as a “Period Starter Kit” is a bit misleading.

The Get Ready Guide even tells you multiple times to seek a reliable source online instead which again is a missed opportunity to teach. I thought this kit was supposed to be the reliable source! I’ve looked on their website to see if they had resources but their site seems more geared towards an older audience and those looking to get pregnant. I thought that was really misleading because their viral commercials featured young girls, not adults. At most this guide only scrapes the surface of the bare minimum for periods so if you’re looking for a comprehensive period kit, this is not it.

The Get Started Guide for Parents is a little better. It offers tips and strategies on how to support your daughter through her changes in puberty and their website has lots of content for parents on how to talk to their daughters about periods.

Here are the Get Ready Guides and more photos of the kit so you can decide for yourself whether or not it’s worth your money.

U By Kotex Cleanwear Pads with 3D Capture Core(Regular, Heavy & Overnight) Review

U By Kotex CleanWear Pads with 3D Capture Core
Take better care with a pad that’s seriously flexible. U by Kotex® CleanWear® Pads now feature 3D Capture Core*, a one-of-a-kind center that locks away wetness to help stop leaks. Designed to move with your body, uniquely shaped wings help prevent bunching so you can rest easy with this nighttime protection.

Review

If you liked the old U By Kotex CleanWear pads, you’ll really like the new CleanWear pads with the 3D Capture Core. It has the same great absorbency and same cover – soft and breathable plastic like cover with cottony soft sides, and is super thin and flexes well with the body. However there are a couple new changes: the 3D Capture Core and a more tapered shape.

The 3D Capture Core is a slightly raised groove around the pad’s centre that’s supposed to pull your period towards the centre and away from the sides to prevent leaks. There wasn’t any noticeable differences in absorbency compared to the old CleanWear pad though so to me it still had the same great absorbency as the old version.

U By Kotex pads are one of the wider pads (7cm at its narrowest) I’ve tried so make sure you wear your big ol granny panties with these. The adhesive is really good too so although they fit weird with panties with a small gusset, the pad stays in place and doesn’t shift around or unstick.

If you’re a small girl like me, you’ll find that the heavy pad offers more than enough coverage for night time wear. The heavy pad was enough to cover both the front and back but on the super heavy days when I can fill a pad in 4 hours, I like to wear the Overnight pads just for extra protection and peace of mind.

I wore these during a super hot heat wave in the summer and boy was that a bad idea. It’s great for a normal day but during a sweaty heat wave and a heavy flow, it trapped a lot of moisture and just felt very wet down there. I was also chafed for an entire week after my period was over :(

MONISTAT 1 Combination Pack 1 Day Ovule Triple Action System Yeast Infection Treatment

Monistat 1 Combination Pack 1-Day OVULE Triple Action System Yeast Infection Treatment

Monistat is just as effective as the leading prescription treatment in curing a yeast infection and it is the #1 doctor recommended over the counter (OTC) brand. While all prescription and OTC yeast infection treatments take several days to achieve a full cure, MONISTAT 1 begins to relieve symptoms in as little as four hours, unlike the leading prescription, which can take 16 hours for the onset of symptom relief.

The MONISTAT 1 Combination Pack also differs from the leading prescription treatment as it contains a cream for external symptom relief in addition to the yeast infection treatment.

The MONISTAT 1 Combination Pack Treatment is the most concentrated of the MONISTAT treatments with 1200 mg of the active ingredient Miconazole nitrate in one dose. It includes 4 CoolWipes, the unique MONISTAT OVULE, and an Itch Relief Cream.

Who should use MONISTAT 1?
Recommended for:

  • Women who are busy and don’t have time to take 3 to 7 doses to treat a yeast infection
  • Women who engage in high activity or frequent exercise
  • Women who don’t like the messy cream treatments

Not recommended for:

  • Women who have never been diagnosed with a yeast infection. Please see your doctor first.
  • If your vagina is extremely irritated and you’re experiencing pain, you may want to opt for the less concentrated product like MONISTAT 3 or MONISTAT 7.

See your doctor if:

  • Your symptoms don’t improve in 3 days
  • Your symptoms persist for over 7 days
Monistat OVULE

The unique Monistat OVULE is inserted inside the vagina and it adheres to the vaginal walls for fast relief and unlike cream treatments, it is less messy. The Monistat OVULE stays in place and can therefore be used any time during the day or night, making it a great solution for women who don’t want to wait until bedtime to begin treating their yeast infection, or those who exercise frequently or engage in a high level of activity.

Active ingredient: 1200 mg of Miconazole nitrate

Some Yeast Infection FAQs
Can I use Monistat or should I see the doctor?

If this is your first yeast infection, it is important that you talk to your doctor to determine whether an office visit is necessary or whether you should first try an over-the-counter cure. However, if you are in good health and have been diagnosed with a yeast infection previously, it is fine to try an over-the-counter remedy such as MONISTAT®, which begins to relieve symptoms soon after the first dose, with a cure in seven days.

Talk to your doctor before using the product if you:

  • Have vaginal itching and discomfort for the first time or never had a vaginal yeast infection diagnosed by a doctor.
  • Have lower abdominal, back or shoulder pain, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, or foul-smelling vaginal discharge, as you may have a more serious condition.
  • Have vaginal yeast infections often (such as once a month or 3 in 6 months). You could be pregnant or have a serious underlying medical cause for your symptoms, including diabetes or a weakened immune system.
  • Have been exposed to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes AIDS.
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Are taking the prescription blood-thinning medicine warfarin (Coumadin).
I have a yeast infection! What are my treatment options?

There are two treatment options. You can either use a topical treatment that goes inside your vagina available over the counter or by prescription or an oral treatment which is a pill you can take available only by prescription

Both treatment options are effective. In this blog post series I’ll show you the MONISTAT 1: 1-Day 1-Dose Treatment, MONISTAT 3: 3-Dose Treatment, and MONISTAT 7: 7-Dose Treatment for vaginal yeast infections, all of which are available without prescription.

Should I use MONISTAT 1, 3, or 7?

It is your preference as to which product you choose. MONISTAT® 1 is a one-day, one-dose product; the medication dose concentration is the highest compared to MONISTAT® 3 and 7. MONISTAT® 3 is a three-day, three-dose product that has a lower concentration of medication per dose. MONISTAT® 7 is a seven-day, seven-dose product that contains the lowest concentration of medication per dose.

It’s important to note, however, that the number associated with each option signifies the days that you’ll need to take the treatment, not the time it will take to cure the infection. While relief from symptoms can be felt as soon as four hours after the first dose with MONISTAT® 1 Combination Pack, most yeast infections take about seven days to be completely cured so it’s important to finish the treatment thoroughly even if you’re feeling better. The concentration of the active ingredient varies with each product, so you should choose the option that’s best for your body. For instance, the 1-day product has the highest concentration at 1200 mg, versus the 7-day treatment’s 100 mg per dose. If your vagina is extremely irritated and you’re experiencing pain, you may want to opt for the less concentrated product, even if it means extending the length of treatment. To relieve symptoms immediately, try an over-the-counter itch relief product such as SOOTHING CARE® Itch Relief
Cream From the Makers of MONISTAT®, which also helps heal irritated skin.
